WORDS FROM THE OWNER - BACKGROUND AND HISTORY OF COMPUTER CLINIC

My company, Computer Clinic, has been operating in Christchurch since 2010 as a limited liability company. However, prior to this I had spent my entire working life in IT in the UK.

Originally from Wigan, near Manchester, England, I spent many years working for the largest retailer in Europe, working my way up the ranks enjoying roles in all aspects of the IT lifecycle. One of my most challenging projects encountered was when this company purchased their closest competition for 2.2 billion pounds. I was involved as an IT Business Analyst on a 12-month IT programme to merge the IT systems together. The success of the IT programme and sub-projects lead to mass redundancies across many departments, which was always going to happen, so inevitably there were many intrinsic challenges and barriers along the way, with big company politics thrown into the mix.

Following the above 6 year stint I was headhunted to become an IT consultant for the National Health Service, reputedly the 3rd largest organisation in the world. The actual IT programme was to implement a new national IT system across all hospitals, doctors’ surgeries and other medical facilities, costing 6.4 billions pounds.

However, prior to my involvement, the whole thing had gone badly off track and had attracted negative press headline along with heated questioning of the then Prime Minister, Tony Blair in the Houses of Parliament. There were many hurdles and issues as the entire programme was off budget with missed deadlines and had become a political football in Parliament. Queue Tony Blair who could do no wrong at that particular time of his career. He took personal responsibility - the old team were sacked and new blood was head-hunted to fix and deliver.

I was lucky enough to be hired as part of the 'fix' team and was heavily involved in rectifying the North-West of England which included all hospitals and doctors’ surgeries between Liverpool and Manchester. With weekly deadlines and regular reporting, the pressure was high. The budgets involved were large and required liaison with hospitals, doctors’ surgeries and everyone in between. The IT programme with its subset of projects did present many unique challenges, but by throwing money at it and working within an incredible high achieving team with the same, common goal, we were all able to get it all back on track and rolled out exactly as planned. During this time, I was privileged to work alongside the most driven and talented people in the country with a zero tolerance for error and weekly reviews - it was deliver or you are fired on a weekly basis and my game was taken to another level.

Following this I travelled the world and eventually decided to move to Christchurch where I started my own IT company (First Aid for Computers Limited t/a Computer Clinic), from scratch with no customers or staff.

I now have a happy customer base with a quality hand-picked team of 8 who all believe in my ethos of high standards and continuous improvements. We have the privilege of having to advertise and being able to pick and choose our customers, contracts, projects and employees.

I am offering you my wealth of experience and knowledge to assist with your current IT related projects to ensure they successfully get over the line. Our stories/testimonials page give some brief examples of work carried out in Christchurch and further afield.
